December 24: The Hidden Life

Dear Jesus, THIS is the lesson that I so want the children of my heart to totally absorb!! Living a Christian life is NOT a difficult thing at all when our lives are "hid with Christ in God." It's just that when one is a new Christian, it SEEMS impossible to ever live like that. But Chambers has said it so wonderfully when he says "the most precarious thing is to try and live without God." Although the habits of the past seem so strong and sing a siren song of pleasant memories, there is nothing but truth in this statement: "If we are born again it is the easiest thing to live in right relationship to God and the most difficult thing to go wrong, if only we will heed God's warning and keep in the light."
Oh, Jesus, please keep my loved ones from using their intellects to rationalize a close connection to their past actions. There will be nothing but misery there. Help them to step out in faith and just obey your instructions, even if they don't understand the reasons that You ask them to do so. I remember well that struggle, but now it is so wonderful to live year after year in such peace and harmony with You, even when the circumstances are difficult. Please give the children of my heart the courage to climb their mountain and live on the plateau of peace with You.
