December 10: The Offering of the Natural

Today in My Utmost for His Highest: http://www.myutmost.org/12/1210.html

Dear Jesus, Before I can pray about this lesson for anyone else, I must ask your forgiveness for myself. I have been studying Your Word and reading these devotions for a long time, so I am without excuse. It seems that self-discipline has always been low in my personal priorities, and yet the lack of it often "ruins the whole of my personal life for God." Please help me to totally absorb this teaching so that I can be of more use to You.

Please teach the chldren of my heart the vital importance of self-discipline so they can reach the fullest of their potentials. There are so many fun distractions in this world today that woo us from the drudgery of vital, but often boring, tasks. Please help us all understand that it is so important to stay organized, refuse to procrastinate, eat properly, and take the time to exercise. All of these things are not fun, and our natural inclination is to choose the exciting over the mundane. Yet we will never reach our potential unless we choose to "sacrifice the natural to the spiritual." Only then will we be ever ready to instantly obey and join You in those rare moments of the supernatural.
