December 1: The Law and the Gospel

Today in My Utmost for His Highest: http://www.myutmost.org/12/1201.html

Dear Jesus, There is so little tolerance today, even among Christians, for talking about sin. Yet how can we ever hope to effectively carry Your message of salvation to others if they are clueless about the depravity of man? Today's devotion spells out clearly the unchangeable fact that even one tiny infraction against the moral code of God means we are unworthy of being in His presence, therefore deserving of hell. There is simply no hope for anyone except for the sacrificial gift of Your death of the Cross in our place. Perhaps some of the children of my heart still believe that they can earn Your favor by doing more obedient things than disobedient ones. Please teach them how to understand the scriptural truths that Chambers speaks of. Bring us all under conviction when we wander away from Truth. When we get a true perspective of what the Cross and Your death really mean in our lives, giving ourselves totally to You seems to be the most logical thing in the world! Please help us to choose deliberately to obey You, confident that You "will tax the remotest star and the last grain of sand to assist us with all Your almighty power!"
