November 30: By the Grace of God I Am What I Am
Today in My Utmost for His Highest: http://www.myutmost.org/11/1130.html
Dear Jesus, Today's devotion in My Utmost has really got me thinking. Not only do we need to learn how to be humble in a way that pleases You and not society, we all need to plead with You to open our eyes and our minds to look at ALL things the way that You see them. For example, there were many very godly people in the 1800s who were slave owners, yet they did not think it was wrong to treat black people as vastly inferior because that was so acceptable to other Christians around them. Lord, help us to look at every aspect of our lives and ask You to shine the spotlight of the Holy Spirit into the deep recesses of our lives. I Corinthians 2:14 states the "The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned." But if we have Your Spirit, You have promised us in v. 16 that "we have the mind of Christ." Prod us to ask You the right questions and then give us the courage to listen and act upon Your answers.
All of the children of my heart are seekers; just like they cannot choose to no longer breathe, they are compelled to ponder the spiritual things of life. If they can find the unity of being of one mind with You, they will be at peace. So be it, Lord!
