November 26: The Concentration of Spiritual Energy

Dear Jesus, I'm sorry that I'm so late praying today, but as You know, I've been busy taking care of sick family members. We've had 10 out of 24 infected with the stomach virus and five of those have had to have visitis to the emergency room. The medical staff said that this virus is a tough one and is moving rapidly. I pray for the health of the children of my heart. Help their immune systems be strong enough to fight it and please remind them to be smart and wash their hands, etc.
Lord, I've been thinking about the words of Oswald Chambers in today's reading and find that it is really very hard to do what he is so right in insisting that we do. Almost all the Christians that I know put more emphasis on the effects of salvation than on the message of the Cross. I've been asking myself just why I do that, and I think it is because I feel that it will be the best "sales pitch" to get people to come to You. After pondering this awhile, I am so ashamed to realize that to witnesss in this way is like trying to be God, somehow believing that if our words are charismatic enough, that the listener will become a believer. Forgive me Lord for trying to take the place of the Holy Spirit. Only You can bring someone to You!!!
Please help the children of my heart spend time contemplating the amazing sacrifice of the Cross and just what a miracle that Grace is! If we ever truly get a deep understanding of the Atonement, we will never be the same again!! All the temptations that seems to pull so strongly at us will lose their allure and their magnetic hold on us if we allow the illumination of Cross to overshadow everything else.
